St. Louis Selected to Host the 2028 Olympic Marathon Trials

USA Track & Field and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee revealed this week that St. Louis will be the host city for the 2028 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Marathon scheduled for March 25, 2028. At this event, six athletes will compete for spots on Team USA heading to the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 – three men and three women. This marks the inaugural Olympic team selection event for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games across every sport.

The St. Louis Sports Commission, working alongside GO! St. Louis, will organize the event to honor the city’s impressive Olympic heritage while demonstrating the vitality and transformation of contemporary St. Louis.

“We are honored to host the 2028 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Marathon, and it represents a tremendous opportunity for our region,” said Marc Schreiber, President of the St. Louis Sports Commission. “We appreciate the confidence shown by USATF and are delighted to strengthen our partnership with them. As the nation’s inaugural Olympic city, we’re proud to add another memorable moment to our Olympic tradition – and to connect St. Louis more closely with the 2028 LA Games. With the Marathon Trials and Olympic Soccer matches taking place here, 2028 will be an exceptional year for our community. We extend our gratitude to all our regional partners, particularly GO! St. Louis, for their dedication in bringing the Trials to our city.

Athletes will run through many of St. Louis’s most recognizable landmarks on the course, including WashU — where the 1904 Olympic stadium sits, representing the oldest continuously used modern Olympic stadium in the world — and Forest Park, St. Louis’s cultural center. The route will also feature well-known sites such as the Gateway Arch and Busch Stadium before concluding at Energizer Park, the home of St. Louis CITY SC. The complete course details will be revealed in the upcoming months.

NBC will broadcast the event live beginning at 11 a.m. CT.

This event will bring substantial economic growth and put St. Louis on the global stage,” said Ron Kitchens, Managing Partner, Greater St. Louis, Inc. “We applaud the St. Louis Sports Commission and GO!
