Google has unveiled a major $15 billion investment initiative focused on developing infrastructure across Missouri, featuring a new data center facility in New Florence, located in Montgomery County. This commitment demonstrates Google’s dedication to constructing data centers responsibly — by thoughtfully expanding local infrastructure, enhancing energy affordability initiatives, and generating employment opportunities for thousands of residents.
“In addition to the considerable economic benefits and employment opportunities, Google has shown genuine dedication to strengthening our communities through strategic partnerships, financial investments, charitable grants, and backing for local enterprises,” explained Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe. “This initiative transcends mere infrastructure development — it represents a genuine investment in the futures of Missouri’s families, communities, and long-term prosperity. Missouri is honored to collaborate with forward-thinking organizations like Google that are fueling regional economic development while positively impacting the neighborhoods where they operate.”
The thousands of quality employment positions generated by this initiative will benefit residents and families throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area. In a recent editorial piece promoting the responsible adoption of planned data centers, Ron Kitchens, Managing Partner at Greater St. Louis, Inc., emphasizes that the St. Louis area faces a pivotal moment economically — and that implementing these initiatives thoughtfully can reshape our region’s future outlook.
“These investments represent billions of dollars with the potential to substantially reshape municipal revenues, educational funding, infrastructure upgrades, and regional strength,” he noted. “Frequently, the broader national conversation overlooks data centers as standalone real estate ventures rather than acknowledging their true significance: critical infrastructure supporting tomorrow’s digital economy.”
